Watching Europe - Mit Blick auf Europa

From today, this blog and most of its posts will also be available in a German translation:
Julien Frisch - Mit Blick auf Europa

I will see whether this extra work will be worth the effort, but I thought I could give it a try.

Does anyone have experience with a similar exercise?

Well, I've tried setting up a German blog, with it's own specific entries rather than translating, but I've been a bit lazy on updating it, and the posts aren't very profound (my poor German is a bit of an barrier).

So I can't say I've any advice, but I'm sure you can make a success out of it.

Viel Glueck!

I just stop sleeping! ;-)

(For non-German speakers: Kosmopolito wished me good luck to find time for all of this.)

Julien,

Here are some thoughts:

There are more than 90 million German-speaking Europeans, so the potential public is huge. At the same time the Euroblogosphere in German is pretty anaemic in comparison (and the most active parts seem to be anti-EU campaigners on the fringes), but perhaps it is an indication of little general interest.

New activity would be welcome, anyway.

Thinking about what to say, looking for material/links, writing the basic contents need to be done only once. (If you look up links in the language you write in, it takes longer.)

In other words, you can save time.

Since your posts are generally short, the translation bit does not take that long (and there is no need to produce a certified translation, just the same message). Time for posting has to be added.

For a while I wrote long posts in three languages, but started to feel that I wanted to cover more ground by not repeating myself, so I opted for my English blog as the main medium, and only occasionally post in Finnish and Swedish nowadays. (But with short posts the matter may look different for you.)
